RECIPE Shepherd’s pie: Philippe Etchebest shares a great trick to make Sunday night meals easier

This time it is a great classic that we are happy to rediscover. It is actually shepherd’s pie, the family dish par excellence! With its minced meat and mashed potatoes, it pleases both young and old. It is also an anti-gaspi dish. As the chef points out, you can easily make this recipe with leftover stew. It might even be even better! The other great idea about this recipe is that it uses mashed potatoes, Philippe Etchebest style which is just to die for! The recipe for Shepherd’s pie by Philippe Etchebest

Ingredients:

  • 2 medium onions
  • 5 cloves of garlic
  • 10 g of butter
  • 800 g minced beef
  • 20 cl beef stock or water
  • 5 sprigs fresh parsley
  • 5 sprigs of fresh tarragon
  • 3 sprigs fresh thyme
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • 60 g breadcrumbs

For mashed potatoes:

  • 1 kg Bintje potatoes
  • 20 cl of milk
  • 200 g of butter
  • Salt

Preparation

  1. Peel your garlic cloves and chop your onions.
  2. Brown garlic cloves in a pan in a little butter. Add the onions and continue to sauté.
  3. Add minced meat, salt and pepper. Increase the heat a little. add beef stock or water. Then cook for 6 to 10 minutes. Meanwhile, clean your fresh herbs and chop them. Add them to the minced meat at the last minute, without boiling them. Add salt and pepper.
  4. Make your mash by baking your peeled potatoes in the oven at 200°C for 1.5 hours, depending on the size of the potatoes. Let cool a little. Remove the skin and then mash them with a fork or potato masher. Stir in milk and butter until you get the consistency you like.
  5. In a baking dishspread your farce in a layer and cover it with your mashed potatoes. Prick the surface with a fork. Sprinkle evenly with breadcrumbs. Bake for 10 minutes in the oven at 220°Cwith the grill.
